Introducing Utah Citizen News

As innocent school children in the United States of America, we daily pledged our allegiance to the American flag and, more especially, to the Republic for which it once stood. Now that same Republic needs us as it never has before. Our freedoms are in peril from a corrupt government that is in collusion with multi-national corporations and an increasingly complicit news media. The future of freedom in America looks bleak.

You'd like to rest assured that our state and federal governments will always remain republics. We simply must ensure that the sovereign people remain the master of government. If we don't, the precious and historically unique freedoms we inherited from our forefathers will be lost, perhaps forever.

You have pledged your allegiance to the Republic. Now it is time to demonstrate it. We call on all liberty-loving Utahns to demonstrate their allegiance to our Republican form of government. We call on you to shoulder the responsibility abandoned by the free press. We call on you to become citizen journalists. Don't worry, chances are very good that you already have everything you'll need to do a great job. UCN will provide the rest.

The Fallen Vanguard of Freedom

The traditional role of the free press in our Republic was to serve as a watchdog for freedom. The free press was supposed to watch the government, exposing corruption so it could be pulled out by the roots. The free press was to remain independent and unbiased, with a focus on finding the truth.

Unfortunately, the media have abandoned their crucial role. The media have now become proponents of anti-American values, giving plenty of airtime to those fringe minorities who would destroy our Republic. Then, they openly mock those who believe in God and the Constitution.

There are several bad consequences of having a news media that has lost its way. Both the elected leaders and the public get a skewed view of each other. The people and their leaders feel isolated from each other, especially those living in rural areas and in the "fly-over" states. According to the Pew Research Center, the vast majority of Americans simply don't trust the news media - but see them as corrupt, biased and inaccurate. And the worst consequence is that government corruption generally goes unreported. If something does leak through, it is often quickly squashed and forgotten.

The Solution: UCN and YOU!

The Utah Citizen News, or UCN, allows us to fill in where the media is falling down on the job. UCN is a tool for the general public to assume the role as government watchdog. UCN allows volunteer citizen journalists to hold their elected officials accountable, thus stemming the tide of corruption. UCN can provide an unfiltered voice to the government as well.

What exactly is UCN? UCN mixes several familiar elements into one new package. You are most likely familiar with the Internet, cell phones, YouTube and the voting element of American Idol. UCN combines these elements in new way to provide an online, citizen generated and citizen edited news program. Now, we can decentralize the collection of news and the judging of its newsworthiness.

Your News is the Real News

As a citizen, you can demonstrate your allegiance to the Republic by serving her as a citizen journalist with UCN. Pick an area of government in which you're interested or which touches your life most - be it local or state school boards, city or county governments, public meetings of state agencies or utilities, the state legislature, the courts, or the Governor's office. Just show up and record what happens in their meetings or when they make announcements. If something newsworthy happens, you can submit the edited video to UCN online at www.UtahCitizenNews.tv. Then invite your friends and neighbors to watch and vote on your report. If your report catches enough interest, it will be included on the official news program on the home page.

As a leader of a civic group, you can use UCN to educate the public about your cause & publicize your events. Like regular citizens and business owners, you just need to register at UCN as a Citizen Reporter. Then you can produce video explaining your groups' views or pitching your events and submit them to UCN.

In Summary

You pledged your allegiance -- now our Republic needs you to stand and deliver on that pledge! As a regular citizen or a leader of a civic organization, you can help preserve freedom in Utah and America by serving the Republic as a citizen reporter.

In the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln, our hope is "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom. And that government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth."
